The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a fantasy adventure film from 2005. It is based on C. S. Lewis's novel of the same name and stars Tilda Swinton as the White Witch. It was written by Mark Johnson and Andrew Adamson, directed by Andrew Adamson for Walt Disney Pictures as their fourth film in the series, as well as Peter Jackson's first live-action Disney studio film. The film made its world premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square on December 3, 2005 in London, England. The movie is about four siblings who discover a wardrobe in their home which leads to the fantasy land of Narnia. There, they are chosen by a prophecy to confront the White Witch who has placed an icy spell over the land.Tilda Swinton trained hard to look like Aslan while interacting with the children and while giving lines that include "I'm not a TIGER", then swinging her mane during certain scenes. In an interview with MTV she admitted that she was less than satisfied with her previous performance in "The Deep End", feeling she had been too stiff during some scenes. The score was written by Harry Gregson-Williams, who previously worked with Andrew Adamson on "Shrek". The music is played by the Czech Film Orchestra.The Battle of Beruna was shot in the Beruna Valley in Gloucestershire over two weeks. Filming also took place at Puzzlewood, Forest of Dean. Puzzlewood was meant to represent the woods where Lucy meets Mr Tumnus for the first time. It is nearly identical to the woods shown in both this film and "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (the second book/movie). Filming also took place at Puzzlewood's sister site Cofton Park, which represents Aslan's How. Since the book is set mostly in the winter and spring, producers had to wait for autumn and winter before filming in Puzzlewood. The battle was filmed using 1:1 scale sets and green screens.The scene where the children first enter Narnia was shot at Puzzlewood, while the land of Narnia was created by a large green screen, with actors adding later. Snow was added to the green screen to represent the blizzard which is raging when they first arrive. Only one real tree (an elm) could be found at Puzzlewood; all other trees were either faked or computer generated. The film was given a PG in the United Kingdom and a PG-13 in the United States for violence. The reason for this discrepancy is that "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" received a PG from the British Board of Film Classification, due to its fantasy setting. In comparison, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" received a PG-13 from the MPAA for its fantasy setting also, but it also contained some intense battle scenes. In December 2005, Disney decided to change the rating of their stateside release to a PG.In December 2006, Cartoon Network broadcast an edited version of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" with an TV-PG-V parental guidance rating.
